Artificial Intelligence
Genuine intelligence is in short supply
Artificial intelligence technologies are polarizing. Many people believe that these innovations will enhance daily life and provide advantages in various professional settings. Others believe that it is a direct affront to humanity, even leading to psychosis in some individuals who use it for social fulfillment. I do think that there are practical applications for this ground breaking technology that have not been considered yet. There are some jobs that an AI could perform more efficiently than a human being. I’m not talking about doctors, IT specialists, actors or poets. We need a human touch in these professions. However, politicians and law makers should immediately be replaced, seeing as they are collectively all operating on artificial intelligence already.

There are various reasons that AI would be a direct improvement to our current representatives and law makers. Sites like Chat GPT are fairly responsive and comprehensive. Constituents often put together detailed proposals and conduct research that goes over the head of those in public office. Chat GPT, or other AI technology, would be able to read more carefully and offer constructive advice, next steps and solutions to various problems. Additionally, seeing as concerned citizens are already used to inhumane treatment from law makers, transitioning to AI in this field would be a smooth one. Many people would hardly know the difference between what we have now and the system we could have in place.
An additional benefit of replacing elected officials with AI would be the irrelevance of political party. We’d be able to focus on the main issues afflicting us as a society. Take the recent NYC mayoral debate for example. If we had leaders that were truly not human, we wouldn’t need for questions like, “So will you march in all the parades?” With AI in office, we wouldn’t need someone waving flags and kissing babies for photo ops. Computers are impartial and don’t need time off. For those interested in tax breaks, we also may be able to save a pretty penny by cutting the extraneous spending on salaries for legislators who simply don’t want to work for the people.
A complete government shut down would also become less likely. Every once and a while we may need the AI politicians to reboot or install updated technology. That would certainly take less than the 19 days of our current shut down. Secret service detail would also become less of an expense. The politicians would not need to travel if they are all connected to a cloud. There may need to be one or two secret service members standing near an outlet to ensure no one tried to pull the plug, but they could work in shifts. And, of course, the argument regarding term limits would be irrelevant because AI would always be updating and would be more functional than many of the congress people who are holding on to their offices by their cold, out of touch and rapidly declining fingers. Insider trading would also become a thing of the past. As the AI is not human, it would have no need for money, thus cleansing politics of greedy individuals involved in public service for personal gain.
Perhaps we can come together and agree that AI isn’t all bad and the threat it poses to humanity would be limited if it replaces the least human among us: self interested politicians.
